Today we had a wicked fun day. We had an awesome science class and a very fun math class.
In math, we learned about "fraction of" problems. We learned a way to figure out what a fraction of a whole number is. We divided the whole number by the denominator. Some of us used counters to figure it out.
In science, we figured out which has more density - hot water or cold water. The most dense is cold water. Our evidence is that we got two cups and we put hot water in one and cold water in the other. Then we put two drops of food coloring in each cup at the same time. Next we saw which one expanded faster and the one that expanded faster was the one with less density. That was hot water. The food coloring acted really slow in the cold water. The other activity was with hydrometers (like the kind used in aquariums). We took cold and hot water and put a hydrometer in each one. We wanted to know which one would go higher. The one that went higher was the hydrometer in cold water. So now we know that cold water is more dense than hot water.
